Ladies, if you are doing this, I plead with you “STOP RIGHT NOW!”
As women, we have made strides in equality. Did you know that over half of the population in Canada is female? Why then, are we still behaving like this?
Why are so many of us still believing we deserve less?
Let me get right to my example. I recently was showing some artwork to a potential buyer. A female buyer. This woman is intelligent, educated, independent and living on her own. She has created a new life for herself. A life of peace and happiness. A life where she has the freedom to live as she sees fit.
After perusing the art collection, she found the perfect painting. A particularly large piece had caught her eye, and she was in love with it. She went on to tell me it was exactly what she had been looking for, and that it would look fabulous in her new home. Only there was one problem.
The only room in her home that was large enough to hang this particular piece was her bedroom.
“Fabulous!” was my response.
Then the explanation followed. She went on to say that she couldn’t buy a painting of this value and hang it in her bedroom where only SHE would see it.
My heavens ladies. I can think of no better place to hang a piece of artwork that you love, then in your bedroom. I have yet to come across a gentleman art collector that has told me he couldn’t possibly buy a piece of art because he wasn’t worth it. That he wasn’t important enough to adorn his walls with something he paid for with his own hard-earned money. I love this about men. They see it, they want it. They buy it.
I believe it was around the 1600’s when the saying “What’s good for the goose, is good for the gander’ first circulated. Earlier forms date back to the 1500’s with “As well for the coowe calfe,as for the bull.”
Surely, we have learned this lesson by now.
Ladies, let me offer you these words, if I may. YOU ARE WORTH IT. YOU DESERVE IT. YOU EARNED IT. And if I may continue, do we not owe it to our daughters, grand daughters, nieces, friends and most importantly, TO OURSELVES, to live with the same equal kindness, self respect, and self love, that our male counterparts do?
Whatever you do ladies, do it with love for yourselves. Do it, and know in the deepest recesses of your heart that you are good enough, smart enough, and everything enough to live your life to its fullest.
Buy the painting. Not because I want to make a sale. Buy the painting because there will never be a day you regret looking at it and knowing that you did that for yourself. Because, you love yourself.
Thank you for taking the time out of your busy day to read this article. As always, it is my goal to spread love and kindness, art and joy around our beautiful planet.
Your support helps this female artist to live her life doing what she loves, and hopefully one day, I too will own my own home where I promise you, I WILL proudly hang art in my bedroom, bathroom, closet and anywhere else I see fit. And here is a little secret that few know. I honestly have a painting inside my refrigerator! It is a small piece painted by my grandson. It rests inside the door, next to the salad dressings. It makes me smile every time I open the fridge. You see, Art knows no boundaries. Hang it anywhere, and everywhere. Because you are worth it.
