Balance can be a precarious thing.
At times we stand solidly in our desired position. At times we fall far from it, whether it be a one legged yoga stance, or a work/family juggling act. Whatever it is, all that matters is that we keep trying!
As I sip my morning coffee, I hear screams coming from the park across the street. First I hear the joy-filled screams of small children playing amongst themselves. Then I hear the angry screams of fuc* & bullshi* coming from a man standing alone at the opposite side of the park. I guess this is balance, just not the kind I desire.
This weekend I am finding my balance in a fun and unique way. This Saturday, July 30, 2022 the OKANAGAN DREAM RALLY is back! I am happy to say that I will once again be a participant. I will be a “Pilot” (driver), and I will be accompanied in my car by a young “Co-pilot” as we drive from Kelowna to Penticton. Young people with special needs or challenging life circumstances will get to experience a day beyond their dreams. A thrilled young Co-pilot of mine once commented, as we drove through the crowds of cheering onlookers, “I think this is as close to being a rock star as I am ever going to be!”
Hundreds of dream cars will drive en masse in a spectacular blur of color and style bringing joy to our young seatmates and the expected fifty thousand spectators. In a previous Dream Rally my young participant burst into tears on our return drive to Kelowna. When I asked if he was alright his answer touched my heart beyond any expectation. “This is the happiest day of my life, and I don’t know how to deal with these emotions.” They were tears of joy. Pure Joy.
For me, the Okanagan Dream Rally brings a beautiful balance to what we have and how we choose to share it.
If you can come out and wave a checkered flag at the smiling copilots or offer a donation, your support will be greatly appreciated. All proceeds go to Ronald McDonald House BC/Yukon and the KGH Foundation. To date the Okanagan Dream Rally has raised over $1.6 million for charity.
